Simple Stretches to Do Between Massage Sessions
Massage feels wonderful, but the benefits last longer when you keep your body moving between sessions. Here are a few gentle, everyday stretches to help hold onto that loose, easy feeling. Move slowly, never push into pain, and breathe.
For the neck and shoulders
- Gentle neck tilts: ease one ear toward your shoulder, hold a few breaths, switch sides.
- Shoulder rolls: slow, big circles backward to open the chest.
For the upper back
- Chest opener: clasp your hands behind you and gently lift, feeling the front of the shoulders open.
For the lower back and hips
- Knee hugs: lying down, draw one knee gently toward your chest, then switch.
- Seated figure-four: cross one ankle over the opposite knee and lean forward slightly for the hip.
A gentle rule
Stretching should feel like a pleasant release, never a strain. If a stretch causes sharp or radiating pain, stop and check with your therapist or physician.
Keep the good feeling going
Ask your therapist which stretches suit your body — we're happy to tailor a few to you.
