If you have never seen a chiropractor, the first visit can feel like an unknown. The reality is reassuringly straightforward: most of it is conversation and assessment, so your chiropractor understands your situation before recommending anything. Here is what to expect at Aara.
The health history conversation
Your visit starts with questions, not adjustments. Your chiropractor will ask about your main complaint, when it started, what makes it better or worse, your general health, past injuries, and your goals. Bring a list of medications and any relevant imaging or reports. The more context you share, the more tailored your care.
The physical examination
Next comes a hands-on assessment. This may include checking your posture, range of motion, joint movement, muscle tension, and some orthopedic or neurological tests. The goal is to locate the source of your problem and rule out anything that would need a different kind of care.
Diagnosis and plan
Your chiropractor then explains what they found in plain language, what is likely causing your symptoms, and a proposed plan, including the techniques they would use and roughly how many visits they anticipate. This is your chance to ask questions and share any preferences before treatment begins.
Your first treatment
If it is appropriate to begin the same day, your first treatment is often gentle. You might feel relief right away, or a little soreness afterward as your body responds, both of which are normal. You will also usually get advice or simple exercises to do at home.

Frequently asked questions
What should I wear to a chiropractic appointment?
Comfortable, loose clothing you can move in is ideal. You will do some movement during the assessment, so anything that lets you bend and stretch easily works well.
Will I get adjusted on my first visit?
Often yes, if the assessment shows it is appropriate, but not always. Sometimes the first visit focuses on assessment and gentle care, with treatment progressing from there.
How long does the first visit take?
Plan for a longer appointment than your follow-ups, since the history and examination take time. Your clinic can tell you the expected length when you book.
