Cupping therapy in Scarborough at Aara uses gentle suction cups on the skin to ease tight, overworked muscles, offered as part of our Chinese-medicine-based care and as an add-on to massage.
What cupping is
Cups placed on the skin create suction that lifts tissue rather than pressing down. It is commonly used on the upper back, shoulders and legs and is popular with people who carry tension in their muscles or train regularly.
What to expect
You may feel a pulling or tight sensation. Cups stay in place for a short time or are moved gently over oiled skin. Cupping can leave round marks that look like bruises and usually fade in several days to about ten. The marks are normal, not a measure of how well the treatment worked.
Who should avoid cupping
People with bleeding disorders or on blood thinners, those with skin infections, sunburn or very fragile skin, and anyone pregnant should speak with a practitioner first. Tell us about your health history and medications. Research on cupping is limited, and results vary.
Insurance and cost
Coverage for acupuncture, cupping and related care depends on your plan, so check your benefits booklet or ask your insurer before you book. Call or text 647-622-4114 and we will tell you what is currently available.
When to check with a professional first
Seek medical advice first if you have a recent injury, a fever, a blood clot or clotting disorder, are pregnant or are unsure whether the treatment is safe for you. Tell your practitioner about your medications, including blood thinners.
