Shirodhara in Scarborough at Aara is a traditional Ayurvedic treatment in which a steady stream of warm oil is poured gently over the forehead, known for its deeply calming effect.
What Shirodhara is
A continuous stream of warm medicated or herbal oil flows slowly over the forehead while you lie comfortably. It is traditionally chosen to quiet a busy mind and support restful sleep, and many people describe it as one of the most relaxing experiences they have had.
What to expect
Your session begins with a short, unhurried conversation about how you are feeling so the oil can be chosen for you. The treatment is quiet and slow, and you simply rest. Plan some easy time afterwards, and expect oil in your hair that you can wash out later that day. Shirodhara is a traditional relaxation therapy, not a medical treatment, and we do not promise cures.
Who should check first
Tell us if you are pregnant, have a fever or cold, have a skin or scalp condition, have allergies to oils, or are unwell. We will advise whether Shirodhara is suitable. Ayurveda complements, and does not replace, care from your doctor.
Insurance and cost
Ayurvedic treatments are generally not covered by extended health plans in Ontario. Our insurance-eligible Registered Massage Therapy can be combined with an Ayurvedic treatment, and we will walk you through the options honestly.
When to check with a professional first
Seek medical advice first if you have a recent injury, a fever, a blood clot or clotting disorder, are pregnant or are unsure whether the treatment is safe for you. Tell your practitioner about your medications, including blood thinners.
